Bet Victor World Matchplay Day 4 and 5

After a day off we are back focusing on the Matchplay!

I had a well earned (in my opinion anyway :) ) day off yesterday and went to the biggest show in town down here in Hampshire, The New Forest Show. It was great fun! The biggest show in Blackpool trundled on without  us adding any insight as time just ran out.

On Tuesday the results were:

Simon Whitlock 10-5 Kyle Anderson
Adrian Lewis 10-7 Steve Beaton
Michael van Gerwen 10-4 Stephen Bunting
Ian White 7-10 Rob Cross

Whitlock looked good, Lewis came through but Beaton will not get a better chance than that to beat a below par Jackpot. Rob Cross was steady and showed great nerve to keep going and win 10:7 and Bunty was soundly beaten by MVG.

It was so easy for Van Gerwen he was actually signing autographs at the break! Now I am a fan of Bunty but in my opinion the pundits are doing him a disservice by telling him how he was unlucky to get the draw he did, how he would have won V another opponent the way he played (rubbish) and just to keep going and it will all be OK (more rubbish).

Someone needs to get hold of Steven and explain that unless he changes something then he will keep getting the same result! I immediately spotted three things that would have a big impact on him, for the good of course. I actually then added a fourth, that walk on music has to go too.

All joking aside this is a valuable lesson for players of all standards. You have to tweak and adapt your game, never be satisfied and if things are going wrong then act positively and try something different to whatever it is you do. The master of this was a guy on the verge of retirement, Phil Taylor, and he has done OK!

Last Night

Mensur Suljovic 11-6 Justin Pipe
Darren Webster 11-7 Steve West
Gary Anderson 9-11 Daryl Gurney
Peter Wright 11-4 Cristo Reyes

Mensur beat Pipe in a game that maybe the purists enjoyed, but on the other hand they may not have done. Darren Webster won again, he is a great character and has come up the PDC the hard way, I admire players like that. Anderson then demonstrated what a self-fulfilling prophecy is, the tired old timer being KO’d by the pesky youngsters coming through the ranks. A great result for Gurney who showed model mental toughness and resolve to win.

Snakebite looked back to his best so he must have caught up on his beauty sleep to beat a rather lacklustre Cristo Reyes.

Tonight

Adrian Lewis 7/10 v Rob Cross 11/8
Phil Taylor 8/11 v Raymond van Barneveld 11/8
Michael van Gerwen 1/14 v Simon Whitlock 12/1

Some more shocks tonight then! Norris is in with a great shout to beat Chizzy and unless Lewis ups his game Rob Cross, with his steady and more reliable scoring than Beaton is in with a great chance. MVG will bring Whitlock’s run to an end and 3^rd game it is the big one. Taylor v Barneveld. Will there be a dry eye in the Winter Gardens?
