PDC World Championships Night 3
Posted: 20.12.14 in Tournament Analysis Blog category
A quieter night at the Ally Pally and a bumper day of darts today!
It was a much quieter night compared with the opening night yesterday! Sky predictably ignored “The Curious Incident Of The Bull In The Night-Time”, bully off, what bully off? The PDC have issued a statement but ruined it by claiming it didn’t affect the outcome of the match! Well, I don’t agree with that. There is only a 50/50 chance of that statement being correct but I doubt a PDC representative will be popping round to Wez’s to run that past him in person!
Anyway, let’s move on! The Hammer huffed and puffed his way past “Canadian” qualifier Dave Richardson. The qualifier even gave the throw away after winning it. Rod (rightly) was baffled by this. There are arguments in favour of course. Players may think that their opponent is more vulnerable in the first set as they haven’t had a chance to get into the match. The thing is that theory also holds true for the player that has just handed the serve to his opponent.
The master plan flopped in the first set, The Hammer taking it 3:0. Richardson did come into the game after that and eventually went out 3:2. Hamilton claims he is “just not getting any luck at the moment”. Hmm, not sure about that and Hamilton will be one to oppose in Round 2 on that display.
We then had the Prelim between Kim Viljanen of Finland and Sascha Stein from Germany. Stein going through 4:1. Next up was our 40/1 shot, Snakebite. He disposed of the former rugby player Gerwyn Price in emphatic fashion.
The Power completed a routine win against the hapless Artut-3:0. Then Sascha Stein kept the German flag flying by keeping his head and disposing of the number 32 seed Stuart Kellett. The match was awful in places (Kellett averaging 73 by the time him and his Xmas darts shirt left the stage) but Sascha has a neat technique and I am looking forward to his next game in round 2.
