Last night lived up to expectations, a shock, a white-wash and Anderson hit his doubles!

Well the first night of The World Grand Prix lived up to expectations! Connie Finnan pulled off the shock the double-in format demands.  The Bull was sent packing, allowing him to head home and focus in on his exhibitions and coaching! The other stars of the night were Taylor, Nicholson and Anderson. They were the only three players to hit a 90 average or higher last night. Anderson hit an amazing 104.86 average which contained just one 180! He rammed our words down our throats about his finishing doubles (and starting) by claiming a 60% success rate on the doubles hit stat.

Anderson played Klassen last night and Jelle had a night to forget. Klassen has been through some turmoil in recent times, including an attempt to slow his throw down. We admire any player that attempts a radical overhaul of their technique when results clearly indicate that their current action is not fit for purpose. A lot of players (of all standards) tend to carry on regardless and don’t address the real issues that are holding them back.

However, Klassen still has issues. His back leg waves around in the air when he throws and therefore he has no stability resulting in a scatter gun attack of the board. Jelle needs to resolve this issue too and his 67 average and last leg failure to get off the mark just underlines this!

The Bronzed Adonis scuppered our tip last night, going out in a thriller to James Wade. In our competition to predict how many of the eight seeds would go out so far they are doing well. Three out of three seeds are safely through. That can’t continue tonight though, can it?

What about tonight then?

Chizzy V Ian White looks like an opportunity on the 180’s count. Chizzy is known for his prowess in the 60 bed but don’t under estimate Diamond White either, he knows where the treble 20 is too. The bar is set at 4.5 meaning we need 5 between them to win! A quick wealth warning, only two out of the eight games last night featured 5 or more 180’s , but these two are capable!

Fred and Ladbrokes are offering Even money.

With Aidan doing such a great job reporting back from the action in Dublin (Follow Aidan on Twitter here) last night we have to get behind his main man Brendan Dolan tonight. Connie Finnan is leading the Irish charge so far and this will only make the History Maker even more determined to overcome the challenge of Adrian Lewis.

We are not going to get carried away mind, Dolan +1.5 sets at 4/5 from Victor’s office will give us an interest in what should be a cracker!
