European Darts Championship

The PDC Euro event from Germany starts today! Here is our preview!
The 6th European Darts Championship event kicks off tonight. The event takes on additional significance as it is being partly covered by ITV 4. Just like the BBC coverage of the Lakeside World Championships ITV 4 are popping the darts on between coverage of another event, in this case it is The Tour de France.
Maybe the PDC didn’t tell ITV4 to get on their bikes with their offer of partial coverage of the event as the PDC do offer a subscription service to watch some of their events via a live stream. I did watch the last Euro event via this method and the coverage is good. A cheaper option is to watch the coverage via the Bet 365 site until ITV 4 take over.
The Coverage tonight is as follows:
Thursday July 4
8pm-11pm Live on ITV4
7pm-11pm Full Session on LIVEPDC.TV or Bet365
Gary Anderson has withdrawn from the event and given an unexpected opportunity to Mark Webster. He comes into the tournament with the ethos that he has "nothing to lose" and he takes on James Wade tonight.
The fixtures tonight are:
Stuart Kellett v Ronny Huybrechts
Jamie Caven v Dave Chisnall
Colin Lloyd v Peter Wright
Robert Thornton v Brendan Dolan
Simon Whitlock v Kim Huybrechts
Phil Taylor v Vincent van der Voort
Raymond van Barneveld v Tomas Seyler
James Wade v Mark Webster
And tomorrow:
Jani Haavisto v Justin Pipe
Max Hopp v Paul Nicholson
Andy Hamilton v Terry Jenkins
Ronnie Baxter v Mervyn King
Wes Newton v Jelle Klaasen
Michael van Gerwen v Kurt Van De Rijck
Adrian Lewis v Mensur Suljovic
Kevin Painter v John Part
From a betting perspective “shocks” have been the norm in these short format Euro Events, especially in the early rounds; last week for example, Jamie Lewis actually battled through to the final taking some notable scalps along the way. Earlier rounds included results such as Leon de Geus thrashing John Part, Suljovic beating Newton and Haavisto taking out Stuart Kellett.
So where will the “shocks” be this time? What about Thomas Seyler at a huge 7/1 V Barney. Raymond should of course in normal circumstances justify his odds of 12/1 on even though only an insane Vegas high roller would consider backing him at those odds. Raymond is apparently jetting back in from a holiday in the gambling capital of the world Las Vegas so there may be some jetlag issues to deal with for RVB. Seyler will have a partisan home crowd behind him too, so who knows?
If you are a punter of a nervous disposition Boyles will even give you 9/10 for Thomas to win with a 3.5 leg start!
Back tomorrow!
