Hi Everybody!
Well it’s been a few weeks at least since I have had an opportunity to speak to my fans, lol. Anyhow, lots of things to discuss, so let’s get cracking.
The Belgium open was another first for me. I travelled with Darryl Fitton and Tony O’ Shea. What a journey. We started at 1:30am and we reached Dover at about 7:30. My god it was busy, full of kids and reminded me of my little George at home in bed. Once in Dunkirk it was another 4-5 hours and again chatting about broken biscuits and my love of the cupcake - Sarah (my wife) makes the best.
So I arrived at the hotel, very swish at the Ramada. The room is HUGE and I thought I should have brought my darts on a tour strap to practise, note for next year. So I waited for Clive Barden(my pairs partner) and Emma to arrive, had a bite to eat and watched Calendar Girls in German, different but good.
I got to the venue in the morning and it was very cramped, you could feel the heat. With a low ceiling and the mass of people it made it very clammy. Thankfully my Darts Performance Centre shirt was on and kept me cool. First game was an easy game, steady tons was all that was needed. I noticed my darts were flicking up on entering the board - might have to look into that.
Next game was against Paul Jennings, an in-form player with great potential to go all the way. He beat me 4-0. I was playing well, tons and 140’s but he was 180’s, four in four legs and two in the same leg. What can you do to beat that? So I just practised a bit until we set off for the hotel, had a pizza and went to bed. Didn’t play pairs this time so jumped back in the car with Tony & Darryl and got home about 6ish.
I enjoyed it but at the moment I think I’m not in the right frame of mind. Without a level head you can’t be in prime condition (I'm sure there are lots of players that can relate to this) and if I learnt anything this weekend it is that darts for me is a passion but at the moment it is just a hobby. Finding the right balance is key, I’m not there yet but will endeavour to make sure that I am there come Sweden.
I wish you all the best in your dreams and hope they come true for you.
