Here is our press release for The Darts Experiment
THE CLASH – SPORTS SCIENCE MEETS THE PUB DARTS TEAM
Tonight (1 march 2011) a unique experiment will get underway. The venue is a pool and darts club above a convenience store in a small suburb of Bournemouth. The Kasbah Club in Boscombe in Dorset is home to Team Kasbah-a “typical” pub team who congregate once a week to play in their local league.
Sports scientist Paul Gillings, founder of the darts improvement website – The Darts Performance Centre – was contacted by Team Kasbah after a plea by him for a team to volunteer to test the ideas and methods behind the website. The concept behind the experiment is that every week the players of Team Kasbah will go through each section of the site just as if they were members of the website sitting at home trying out the darts performance enhancement ideas. The only difference being is that the author`s of each section from the site will be at the Kasbah Club to guide the team through their journey of darts improvement. Paul Gillings commented “We have a bio-mechanist, sports psychology lecturer, video analyst and some guest PDC and BDO players making appearances over the next five weeks to bring the articles they have added to the website to life”.
Paul added “we have had a fantastic response to the site which has really hammered home how wrong the common misconception is that dart players are not deep thinkers about the game of darts, they most certainly are. The two main reasons for carrying out this experiment are to show that sports science can be used in darts, by everyone who takes part. We will demonstrate straight forward and easy to master interventions that will help each player to improve”.
“The second reason is to promote our ideas and contemporary sports science research that underpins all the Darts Performance Centre is about. Team Kasbah are an eclectic mix of players and I am convinced that grass roots dart players everywhere will be able to find a player or two they can relate to. We will ask for honest feedback from everyone taking part on what they think of us, our methods and whether they feel they have learnt and improved.
Can the Darts Performance Centre make Team Kasbah rock? Watch this space!
