Three Players Who Could Cause a Surprise at the 2020 World Darts Championship
Michael van Gerwen is bidding for his fourth PDC World Darts Championship success, beginning the defence of his title at the Alexandra Palace in December where he's the hot favourite with the bookmakers to lift the trophy again.
'Mighty Mike' has already won two big Major titles in 2019, with victories coming in the Masters and Premier League Darts, so he's proved that he's going to take some beating once again at the biggest tournament in the sport.
That said, if an upset is going to happen, here are three players who look massively overpriced in the early outright market and just might cause a surprise. Gerwyn Price

Welshman Gerwyn Price showed he has the game to win big titles with the PDC when he landed the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts with victory coming over Gary Anderson in the final. One of the biggest qualities Price has is that he doesn't fear anybody in the sport, including MVG. Earlier this year, he reached the semi-final of the UK Open but lost to Nathan Aspinall, denying him the opportunity to play for the trophy.
Price should continue to reach the latter stages of the big events in 2019, and although his record in the World Championship is not very good so far, being priced as low as 28/1 in the darts betting for the tournament, he must prove very tempting for punters who are looking to back an outsider at the Ally Pally. James Wade With 9 PDC major titles to his names, James Wade is one of the most successful darts players in the history of the game.
Unfortunately for the Machine, his form has been up and down over the last couple of years. Victory in the 2018 European Championship ended his four-year wait for a premier event success. The three-time World Championship semi-finalist started the season by reaching the final of the Masters but was no match for van Gerwen who defeated him 11-5. Wade will be encouraged by the way he has been playing this season and at 28/1 for the World Championship, he certainly looks to have one of the best chances outside the leading players at the top of the betting.
Glen Durrant
🏆🎯 'DURRANT ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST' 🏆🎯

Three-time BDO world champion Glen Durrant makes his Premier League debut this Thursday, and @Wayne501Mardle insists 'Duzza' is one of the best players in world darts! https://t.co/v1TfTU2fHHpic.twitter.com/NdpwAx2EkV
Glen Durrant won his third straight BDO World Championship title last January to cap off what was a dominant spell with the organisation for the Middlesbrough-born player. After qualifying through the PDC-Q School, Duzza is now eligible to take part in the PDC World Championship for the first time in December.
The 48-year-old will be hoping to replicate what Raymond van Barneveld did in 2007 when he won the world title at the first attempt after moving from the BDO. Although the quality of the opposition in the PDC will be much stronger than Durrant has been facing over the last three years, he is a very good player and is capable of making a big impact in the biggest tournament in the sport, where he is 33/1 to pull off a surprise by winning the event.
There is so much darts to play from now until the start of the 2020 World Darts Championship, as the above three players look to rise as high as they can on the PDC Order of Merit to help their seeding at the tournament.
