Who is going to lift the PDC World Championship trophy this year?
Predictions for the PDC World Championship 2018
The PDC World Championship is always one of the best events to enjoy in darts. Bringing together all the best players to compete in one place, the annual Ally Pally extravaganza is looking set to be another cracker in 2018. With the early rounds already underway, you may already have a feeling for who might go all the way to clinch the crown this year.
2018 PDC winners – the ones to watch
As with all darts events, the main men are expected to be in the final reckoning when the time comes. The four red-hot favourites now are:
Michael van Gerwen
Going into the start of this year’s championship, this guy was the clear front runner in most people’s eyes. You can see why – he not only possesses a supreme amount of talent in his hands but also has great mental strength. That means he can perform when the pressure is on and he most needs too. Although he did experience a slight blip in his form earlier in the year, he now seems to be right back on track.
Phil Taylor
If there was one fairy-tale ending you would love to see as a fan, it is ‘The Power’ winning on his last tournament appearance. As with Roger Federer in tennis, Taylor has cut back on his overall playing commitment to focus on certain events. The PDC World Championship is one and he obviously has the skill to pull off a win.
Taylor is in a very competitive part of the draw with Gary Anderson and Peter Wright. The problem he faces is not only getting past these tough opponents but then having the mental energy to take on Van Gerwen in the final.
Gary Anderson
On current form, this player is one to watch. He has won the event already in 2016 so knows exactly what it takes to come out on top. As with Taylor, the main problem he will face is Van Gerwen! The two played in the 2017 final which Anderson lost, so this may be too much for him to recover from if they were to face off again.
Peter Wright
The last of the four clear favourites is Peter Wright. The guy has had a stunning season so far and will certainly fancy his chances of doing well. He is in the tougher half of the draw though with Taylor and Anderson, which could hamper his progress. Another potential concern you must take into account is his recent hospital treatment for gallstones. This ate greatly into his preparation time for the PDC World Championship which may leave you fearing if he is ready for the event.
Potential wildcards
As well as the usual suspects above, there are a couple of players who may make an unexpected impact on this year’s Championship:
Rob Cross
While not a total unknown or wildcard, Cross is on his debut season in the PDC. He has done well to date and made a name for himself as one of the hottest newcomers to the game. Shooting up to number 20 in the world in under 12 months, he has the talent to go far. The one downside you would have to factor in is whether he could cope with the mental pressure of a major final.
Daryl Gurney
Hailing from Northern Ireland, Gurney is a dark horse that many fans feel could end up winning. Having triumphed in the World Grand Prix already, you can be sure he knows all about what it takes to win on the big stage. You would be in good company in keeping a close eye on his progress through the various matches.
Keep up to date with all the latest news
If you want to keep up to date with all the latest PDC World Championship news then sports betting sites are a great choice. The sites will have all the recent results as well as the various odds for each player to win. Making a wager is simple with these kinds of online betting sites, creating an extra buzz for enthusiasts. If you have a strong feeling that one player is going to go all the way, why not back them and profit from their victory?
Fans can look forward to an exciting tournament
There is no doubt that the 2018 PDC World Championship is shaping up to be a cracker. With so many of the world’s top players taking part, you will not be short of excitement and entertainment. Although the four main contenders are clear, there are a few others that may come along to spring a surprise. Whatever happens, you will not see a better spectacle of darts anywhere else over the Xmas period.
