All you need to know about The World Grand Prix from Dublin!

The World Grand Prix Double in/Double out tournament in Dublin starts on Sunday 1 October! I am at the City West, I came over to support our sponsored player Diogo Portela in the Players Championship event and I am staying on to go to the first night’s play!

We have always loved this tournament! Not just because it is different from the rest with the Double start, but this aspect brings so many more things into play. Players have to work out when to bail out of their chosen double when it is just not going in or having to try and remain calm as their opponent disappears out of sight because they can’t even get started!

We also have the fact for the first time for ages MVG is suffering a small blip in his form. He is still odds on favourite mind so let’s not get too carried away. But the rest of the players sense that he is vulnerable and there is a stack of players in great form at the moment.

Two outsiders for example are in with a shout. Rob Cross won the Players Championship event in Dublin on Friday and can be backed at 40/1. Another form man who has his favourite double that he never misses is Mensur Suljovic. He is available at 25/1 and he has got his weekend off to a flyer by winning the Players Championship yesterday (Saturday). Rob is in the top half of the draw with MVG and Jackpot so that will be tough. Mensur is in the bottom half with Gary Anderson and Peter Wright.

Here is the Draw Bracket:

Michael van Gerwen (1) v John Henderson
Alan Norris v Justin Pipe
Raymond van Barneveld (8) v Kyle Anderson
Steve Beaton v Rob Cross
Dave Chisnall (5) v Jelle Klaasen
Robert Thornton v Kim Huybrechts
Adrian Lewis (4) v Daryl Gurney
Joe Cullen v Darren Webster
Gary Anderson (2) v Richard North
Simon Whitlock v Christian Kist
Michael Smith (7) v Gerwyn Price
Benito van de Pas v Cristo Reyes
Mensur Suljovic (6) v Ian White
Steve West v James Wade
Peter Wright (3) v Stephen Bunting
Mervyn King v Ronny Huybrechts

The action starts on Sunday at 7pm and these are the games we have to look forward to:

Alan Norris (4/6) v Justin Pipe (6/4)
Joe Cullen (5/6) v Darren Webster (11/10)
Steve Beaton (2/1) v Rob Cross (1/2)
Robert Thornton (1/2) v Kim Huybrechts (13/8)
Raymond van Barneveld (4/7) v Kyle Anderson (11/8)
Adrian Lewis (11/10) v Daryl Gurney (11/13)
Michael van Gerwen (1/33) v John Henderson (11/1)
Dave Chisnall (4/7) v Jelle Klaasen (13/8)

In the outright market MVG is favourite at 4/5 Anderson 9/2 Peter Wright 7/1 Mensur 25/1 Crossand Gurney at 40/1. Check out the latest darts matches here
