All you need to know about the Winmau World Masters!

Well the BDO have kept us on our toes the past few years with event dates changing and also the venues in which the championships are played. It keeps things fresh though! The ancient and firmly established Winmau World Masters left its home in Hull last year and was played at The Lakeside. This year it has found a “new” home at the Spa in Bridlington.

This year’s Winmau has been added to the British Open and the British Classic events which are being played this weekend.

Monday

On Monday the first stage of the Men's Winmau Masters will be played down to the last 16 players. The draw for this stage is herel These 16 will then join the 16 seeds who will be patiently waiting to see who they get.

There are some big names hoping to get to the last 32 when the seeds come into play and a chance to get on stage the following day; Wollfie, Jeff Smith and The Count to name a few are in from the start.

The seeds include: Durrant, Mitchell, our sponsored player Nick Kenny, Fitton, Harms and Veenstra amongst others. The full list of seeds are here.

There is a similar format for the Ladies. The main event will find 8 qualifiers who will come up against the 8 seeds to see who will come back on Tuesday for the stage games. All the usual suspects make up the seeds; Deta, Lisa Ashton, Lorraine Winstanley and The Golden Girl. The full list is here.

Tuesday

On Tuesday the stage games start. Matches will be on around 2pm and it is a packed day of darts. We have the Men's World Masters Last 16, Ladies World Masters Qtr Finals, Boys World Masters and the  Girls World Masters. The stage games are being streamed on Winmau TV and broadcast on Eurosport

Wednesday

On Wednesday, we have Winmau World Masters Finals Men’s Quarter Finals down to Final and Ladies Semis and Final. These will also be shown on Winmau TV and Eurosport!

Duzza, who will be aiming for his 3rd title on the bounce is the strong favourite at 9/4. Scott Mitchell has been playing well lately and he is 2nd favourite at 5/1. Durrant and Mitchell are on a collison course to meet in the semi-final. If you are looking for outsiders don’t write our man Nick Kenny (33/1) off and Willem Mandigers (33/1) is a fine player who I have been keeping tabs on lately and may surprise a few here! Jeff Smith (33/1) and Wolfie (50/1) could of course still be involved once the qualification is done and dusted and they will both fancy their chances too.

In the Ladies Lorraine Winstanley is in top form but can she win a Major? Deta and Lisa Ashton are always dangerous of course and the Ladies is really too tight to call these days with the standard getting higher it has become tough to call who is likely to win a Ladies event.

Our sponsored player Vicky Pruim will have to do it the hard way via the qualifiers first, but she is more than capable and if she makes it to the stage games look out for the bright flights we had made for her and the matching shirt!

I will be there for the duration of the event helping out behind the scenes and I am really looking forward to it. I urge you to get along to Brid if you can, there are some tickets available still, you can get them here:

The sponsors Winmau also have a dedicated Winmau World Masters Facebook page here and a dedicated Twitter feed here.
