We look back on Day 1 and forward to Day 2

It was a day of a mixed standard of darts on Day 1 of Lakeside 2017. I was watching most of it from The Press Room whilst moonlighting for the BDO during this epic week of darts. I did get out and about and there was a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone was having a ball!

The day started well with one of our sponsored players, Nick Kenny, putting up a great show V tournament favourite Glen Durrant.

The Golden Girl was slow off the blocks but did enough to beat a nervy Claire Brookin. Ryan Joyce was the star of the show though. I must admit I didn’t know a lot about him but he could give Wolfie a run for his money today! The Dazzler then disposed of Wouter Vaes with ease.

The Silencer played OK to beat Japanese qualifier Seigo Asada and Mark McGrath came through a marathon game to beat Roger Janssen. The clock was ticking now and fatigue was kicking in, in the press room! Aileen de Graaf disposed of Rachel Brooks fairly swiftly and then The Quiff, Jim Williams beat The Silverback to round off a fine day!

If you would like to read some more detailed match reports Josh Gorton is writing for the BDO all this week. Day 1 Afternoon and Day 1 Evening here:

Here’s the card for today:

13.00 Martin Adams (8/13) v Ryan Joyce (6/4)

14.15 Paul Hogan (2/5) v Tom Sawyer (17/10)

15.30 Lisa Ashton (1/5) v Sharon Prins (21/5)

16.00 Scott Mitchell (3/19) v Mark McGrath (5/1)

19.00 Krzysztof Ratajski (11/10) v Willem Mandigers (11/17)

20.15 Fallon Sherrock (1/4) v Olive Byamukama (21/5)

20.45 Raymond Smith (13/10) v Davy van Baelen (6/11)

22.00 Jamie Hughes (3/10) v Martin Atkins (11/5)

The opening game should be a cracker. Wolfie has been having a tough time but is back on the road to recovery. Ryan Joyce had a 90 odd average yesterday and this will be tight. Lisa Ashton is back v Sharon Prins and Scott Mitchell should go through comfortably unless McGrath can up his game.

In the evening Fallon Sherrock, Davy van Baelen and Jamie Hughes are in action and I expect them all to progress.

Sunday Double

Joyce and van Baelen
