In day and night of naked ambition we look at who have begun their winning streak!

We had another epic day and night at The Palace yesterday. Mark “Flash” Dudbridge joined the commentary team. It was good to hear a new voice and one with a Bristolian lilt too. There was a streaker too, shame “Flash” wasn’t in the commentary box for that!

In the afternoon Jenkins' performance was the stand out one. Goldfinger edged past Henderson and made you wonder about the “luck of the draw”. You could name 3 or more players already departed from the tournament that would have beaten Hendo or Golding at a canter.

The evening session was the one though - Cristo Reyes beating Dimitri Van den Bergh in a classic. Then despite being laid to rest by the commentary team, The Demolition Man destroyed Bunty in the last set coming from behind to win in a tie break!

There were some good lessons dished out again. The commentators highlighted Gilding’s set up where he steps from right to left to find his position on the left wing of the oche. We also had Bunting setting up on the far right. But Gilding’s set up is a habit or if you prefer pre-throw routine he has developed to get in the same spot each time.

Now I don’t agree that this is the best oche position for him but I do like to see little habits that ensure that a player is able to repeat their throw pretty much identically each time. Darren Webster has a neat pre-throw routine when setting up his dart to throw.

He brings the dart back to rest against his nose and then moves it up to his eye line and away it goes. Take a look at the video and give some thought as to whether you could develop something similar in your game.

Tips

In the afternoon session I envisage that the Pipe/Dobey and Webster/Murnam will be tight mistake riddled games that are too tight to call. How about:

Over 16.5 legs in the Webster game (8/11) and over 17.5 in the Pipe game (11/10) at double odds of 2.63
