It was a slow start to the Worlds but did brighten up later!

PDC World Championship Day 2

It was a slow start to the Worlds but did brighten up later!

A laborious start to the World Championships last night with the Painter/Caven match did liven up after that! Painter was not concerned about his average (he should be) and that a win was a win. Indeed, but if he hits this standard again then the victory last night will be his last at Ally Pally this year.

Jamie Lewis played well, finished with aplomb and deserved to go through. Anderson hit the oche running against Mark Frost, who didn’t put up any resistance to be fair but my concern that the World Champion may struggle to shrug off his indifferent form of the last few months may be wide of the mark. In the last game The Bully Boy showed previously unseen traits of mental toughness to come from behind to beat Ricky Evans.

Tonight we have:

Friday December 16 (7pm)
Jerry Hendriks (4/5) v Warren Parry 11/9) Preliminary
Gerwyn Price (8/15) v Jonny Clayton (9/5)
Steve Beaton (8/13) v Devon Petersen (11/7)
Peter Wright (1/33) v Hendriks/Parry (12/1)

I did some memory refreshing on some of tonight’s games. Jerry is the Dutch lad, he of plenty of hair gel and a slick player to boot. Warren Parry is a truck driving New Zealander who we have seen at the Worlds 3 times before and in the PDC World Cup for the last 2 years. Looking at Darts Database Jerry hasn’t had the best of years so Parry may be worth some consideration to motor on through this prelim to face Snakebite in the last game of the night.

Price at 8/15 is also worth considering against The Ferret, Jonny Clayton who is ranked 60 in the Order of Merit. Gerwyn is in danger of picking up a reputation of letting games slip away from him when he is in a position where it seems he will run out a comfortable winner. It will be his 3rd visit to the Palace stage so he should be capable of holding it together and going through.

Steve Beaton v Devon Petersen is one of my technique v the rest matches. The Adonis with his simple and smooth technique v Dancing Devon – he who sways and lurches around the oche. Has to be Beaton for me.

Last we will see our “outsider” Peter Wright take on the prelim winner.
