We take a look at the first wave of the Grand Slam games!

The 2016 Grand Slam kicks off at 1pm on Saturday with a mammoth 16 matches spread over two sessions. The evening session is scheduled to finish at around 11.30 pm so it is going to be a full day of darts!

Talking about late finishes the last game of the night is well worth staying up for – Adrian Lewis (2/7) former PDC World Champion v former BDO World Champion Scott Mitchell (11/4).

Other stand out ties are the form PDC man Mensur Suljovic (1/3) v Dutch sensation form the BDO Danny Noppert (9/4).

Glen Durrant (21/10) the BDO number one has a tough opener against the current PDC World Champion Gary Anderson (4/11). Tournament favourite MVG (1/10) takes on 3 times Lakeside Champion Martin “Wolfie” Adams (6/1). Wolfie who has his own personal health battle going on at the moment returns to the Wolverhampton stage after his magnificent efforts 12 months ago.

The Power (1/8) is up against BDO World Trophy Champion The Dazzler, Darryl Fitton (5/1). In the all PDC clash Chizzy (2/5) v James Wilson (2/1) should be fast and furious.

In the outright betting it is like going back in time to when Phil Taylor was in his prime. This time it’s MVG who can be backed at odds on before a dart is thrown –It's 5/6 for the Dutchman to be holding the Grand Slam trophy aloft come a week on Sunday. Anderson and Taylor are both 6/1 and the best prices BDP player to do “a Waites” is Glen Durrant at 50/1.

Tips

Maybe a bit of a watching brief for the first round of games but backing the BDO players definitely offers some value. Maybe the handicap market is the way forward and I would be looking at Noppert, Durrant and perhaps Scotty with a few legs start to get home.
