It's a cunning plan! Try out some of the games from our Practice Plan
The PDC World Championships and Lakeside are done and dusted until next year, Q school is sorted and for all the grass-roots players, leagues all over the UK are up and running again! But whether you have your eye on a spot at Lakeside next year or the most 180’s in your pub league how are you going to improve in 2016?
One of the best darts improvement tools we got involved with in 2015 is our practice plan. Written in conjunction with a great friend of the DPC, Aidan Farrelly, it has had the most amazing feedback from players of all standards. Simple, challenging, straightforward games, directly related to what happens during a darts match have been the secret of its success!
Would you like a taster of a session? Good, here you go then!
Week 1 Session 1
Warm Up - Around The World Singles
3 darts at each single number = one point per accurate dart.
Session 2 - Treble 20 Scoring
33 throws (99 darts) at T20! One point per fat 20, 3 points per treble. Why not predict how many points you are going to score before you start?
Session 3 - 121 in 6 darts
This game does what it says on the tin. Can you hit a double from 121 in 6 darts or fewer? A challenging game played by the pro’s. If you’re struggling to get out, record what double you got down to so you can compare your results in a few weeks’ time. Play this ten times and record the times you get out or the double you get to.
Don’t forget all good practice games should be adaptable. So, if you are just on the darts improvement road you can give yourself 9 darts to get out.
Session 4 - It’s A Record
This is a favourite of mine! It is perfect for practising your power scoring and can give you a huge reality check unless you stay focused. Keep throwing at the 20 and count how many you hit in a row. As soon as you stray into the 1 or 5 (or worse) then that is game over. Record the amount of accurate darts and start again. Play this 10 times and keep your score for each game.
So that’s a little taster of how we put our sessions together. In total the book covers 8 weeks of 5 sessions per week. One fan of the book Neil P has been in touch several times to list his achievements since starting and getting some structured practice for the first time. He won his first trophy and it has given him the confidence to enter his first darts comp!
Remember a practice with no plan is a plan for no practice!
