The Netherlands were favourites for the 2014 Darts World Cup - They didn't disappoint!

The strong Netherlands team of Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld were successful in the 2014 World Cup following a 3-0 victory over England in the final at the weekend in Germany.

It is the second time that the Netherlands have won the competition since it inaugurated with the PDC in 2010. They were the first ever winners of the new tournament when they defeated the Wales team of Mark Webster and Barrie Bates 4-2 at the Rainton Meadows Arena in England.

This time around their victory in the final was more convincing as they whitewashed their opponents which also included two multiple world champions in Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis.

Van Gerwen got Netherlands off to the perfect start against the defending champions as he ran out a 4-0 winner over Taylor to put his side into an early lead. That game included a 10-darter from Mighty Mike in a repeat of the 2013 World Championship.

In the very next game, van Barneveld continued his side’s run of winning legs when he beat Lewis 4-0 to put the Netherlands within one point from the trophy.

The match was wrapped up by van Gerwen as he won his second game of the night, this time with a 4-2 victory against Jackpot to reward backers with Betfair.

The Dutch pair played well together throughout the tournament which saw them pick up wins over Belgium and Northern Ireland in the quarter-finals and last four, respectively.

Van Gerwen will start the World Matchplay tournament in Blackpool next month as the favourite with Betfair to continue his dominant season so far.

The 25-year old has won four major trophies with the PDC so far in his career and will top the market for the World Championship in December where he will be looking to defend the crown he won back in January.
