We take a look at what may happen tonight at the World Cup!

Evening Session
Second Round

Australia v Hong Kong Odds Australia 1/6 Hong Kong 5/1

Singles 1 - Simon Whitlock (1/5) v Ting Chi Royden Lam (4/1)
Singles 2 - Paul Nicholson 1/3) v Scott Mackenzie (5/2)
Doubles (if needed) - Whitlock/Nicholson v Lam/Mackenzie

Preview:

Where are the shocks going to be tonight then? Before the start of the tournament Australia would have been on my radar as a possible target for the underdogs! Hmmm, The Wizard and The Asset both shrugged off their recent poorish form in their first game and I can see them moving forward another step tonight.

Scotland v Sweden  Odds Scotland 1/7 Sweden 6/1

Singles 1 - Peter Wright (1/5)  v Magnus Caris (4/1)
Singles 2 - Robert Thornton (1/6)  v Peter Sajwani (5/1)
Doubles (if needed) - Wright/Thornton v Caris/Sajwani

Preview:

The odds say it all here. Yes Magnus has seen it all but Snakebite and The Thorn have all the ingredients of a formidable team and should go through without the need for a pairs match.

England v USA Odds England 1/14  USA 10/1

Singles 1 - Phil Taylor (2/17) v Larry Butler (6/1)
Singles 2 - Adrian Lewis (1/8) v Darin Young (5/1)
Doubles (if needed) - Taylor/Lewis v Young/Butler

Preview:

The USA played superbly in the first round. Their winning formula was quite simple really, Young and Butler play together around 20 weeks of the year and have built a great partnership. The problem for them here and I think a flaw in this supposed “team” tournament is that they may be eliminated by the time the two singles games are done!

That said the England team may not have the pairs match experience the American team can boast of but they also interact well together both on and off the oche.  Jackpot in particular seems hell bent on winning the trophy for the third time and Taylor’s desire to win is legendary. England to win!

Netherlands v Spain Odds Netherlands 1/12 Spain 9/1

Singles 1 - Michael van Gerwen (1/9) v Antonio Alcinas (6/1)
Singles 2 - Raymond van Barneveld (1/5)  v Carlos Rodriguez (9/2)
Doubles (if needed) - van Gerwen/van Barneveld v Alcinas/Rodriguez

Preview

Spain proved a few pundits wrong in the first round and moved through the gears in their game against New Zealand. I have always been a huge fan of Alcinas and I am baffled as to why he hasn’t made more of an impact in the PDC. A few tweaks and he could be a top player, I am sure of that.

However, it was actually his partner Carlos Rodriguez who stood out in the New Zealand game and he will need Alcinas to start firing if they are going to get anything from this game.

Barney and MVG are an interesting team. Mighty Mike explained that their lack of experience of doubles play is an issue but now the format has changed with the emphasis on singles play this should suit them.

It is difficult to see past Holland of course but if Spain could pull off an upset in either of the singles games then we are in for a thrilling finale later tonight!
