Kit Sponsorship Deal

We have sponsored up and coming player Conan Whitehead!

It’s tough going for dart players to pick up sponsors! We get a lot of requests as no doubt all darts related companies do, letters, emails and social media are the favourite way of pitching for some sponsorship. The latest player we have arranged a kit deal for didn’t have to do a thing; he just got his Dad to buy me a diet coke!

I got chatting with Conan Whitehead’s Dad, Andy whilst patiently waiting for a drink before the start of the UK Open in June. Conan had qualified via the SpeedyHire shoot outs and was in the venue preparing for his game against Roland Scholten.

Andy was rightly proud of Conan’s achievement of qualifying and he believed he would beat Scholten. I knew nothing about Conan but Andy told me how he had introduced Conan to darts via his own passion for the game.  He added that Conan didn’t suffer from nerves and was planning to head to Q School in January. After insisting on getting me a drink (he couldn’t bear to see me wait any longer) we headed in separate directions. As it turned out Andy was right and Conan knocked out Roland 5:4, I was impressed!

The next night Conan cruised past Kevin Thomas 5:1. I watched the game with Andy and the expanding Conan fan club.  Andy had the uncanny knack of predicting when Conan would hit the doubles and was right every time! In the 3rd round Conan was edged out 9:8 by Michael Mansell in a cracking tightly fought game.

I then got in touch with Conan the following week and told him that we would like to offer him some kit sponsorship and to make sure he thanked his Dad for buying me a diet coke!  Conan picked up his Blade 4 boards, stems and flights at a recent tournament in Liss. We are sorting out some practice routines for him and are looking forward to see how he does at Q School.

If he gets his card maybe Andy will get me something a little stronger than a coke to celebrate!
