We look ahead to the action at the Winmau World Masters today

It was a great night of action last night from Hull! Six of our tips made it through to the 2nd round (or is it the 6th) to pair up against the eight seeds. The matches are as follows.

Our mystery tipster has spoken and he forecasts a good day ahead for the seeds:

Ross Montgomery V Martin Phillips

Montgomery has had a fantastic season so far but can he carry it on when he is involved in  a TV stage game?Arguably he doesn't always produce his best on these occasions. He is up against the tub thumping refuse collector Martin Phillips and this should be a cracker! A tight match that Red Dragon sponsored Phillips shades is our shout.

Tip: Phillips

John Walton V John Durrant

John Boy is the seed and gets the nod! Hmmm, Durrant played very well last night and this will be a close encounter.

Tip Walton (with caution)

Scott Waites V Ewan Hislop

On paper an easy win for Scotty! However, Hislop may have news for "Too Hotty" mind, he was fantastic last night and another potential scorcher!

Tip:Waites

Tony West V Christian Kist

Kist was another of the qualifiers who impressed last night. Tony West is an experienced player and this will help him to ease through.

Tip:West

Gary Robson V  Andrew Gilding

"Goldfinger" or 00 180 has a licence to win important darts matches. He was written off last night as the match entered the final set but came through. However, Gary Robson has the skill and technique to be the villian today and send Andrew back to Suffolk.

Tip: Robson

Martin Adams V Steve Douglas

Our mystery tipster has dismissed our thoughts about "Wolfie" not being prepared properly for this encounter (see below) and sees nothing but a win for Adams.

Tip:Adams

Dean Winstanley V Rick Hofstra

Deano will maybe get a few more Twitter followers if he moves into the next round. There was nothing Rick did last night to concern Winstanley and we predict an easy win!

Tip:Winstanley

Robbie Green V Steve Bunting

Steven Bunting was impressive last night and also gave the impression there was more to come! Kong is a heayweight on the BDO circuit in more ways than one and will be a tricky opponent for Bunting! We think Steven will continue his run and pinch this one!

Tip: Bunting

Be Prepared

We are big on preparation at the Darts Performance Centre.  Why? Because we believe it is absolutely vital to go into every match in the peak of condition, prepared for any eventuality that may crop up and with a plan or strategy of how the match will be played out.

Last night Martin Adams was involved in a “challenge” match against the PDC World Champion Adrian Lewis. Adams won 13-12, giving the BDO an unusual opportunity to own some bragging rights over the other Governing Body. “Wolfie” has also recently been involved with the new board that has taken over the BDO.

The point of me recycling news you most likely already know is that is this ideal preparation for the Winmau World Masters? It was suggested last night the victory over Adrian Lewis was good preparation for Adams' game tonight against Steve Douglas. Was it? He has a long journey to undertake to get to Hull, a late night last night and an `emotional high` that would have surpassed a routine win in an early round of The Masters had he been playing there instead.  All these elements can take their toll. Factor in the distractions with the “business” side of his involvement with darts and you could argue Adams may not have his mind fully on the job.

“Wolfie” is of course a consummate professional and a massive favourite with the bookies not only to win comfortably against Steve Douglas but to lift the trophy on Sunday. However, it isn’t possible for Adams to be 100% on his game given the preparation we have just examined; this of course may still be enough. Steve Douglas has an opportunity to cause a huge upset, especially with the match over a short format.

Blade 4

The Winmau Blade 4 boards are performing very well - in some recent competitions the board has taken "centre stage" with a high volume of bounce-outs! No such problems at the Masters, so far! If you would like to try out the Blade 4 you can win one in our latest "Survivors" competition. Just predict how many of the qualifiers will still be standing at the end of the 2nd round today!
