The Winmau World Masters is under-way. We have added our mystery tipster`s selections to our preview of Night 1

The Winmau World Masters started yesterday (yes it really did) although coverage was sporadic. The first stage was a preliminary event. This comprised of 256 players, who had qualified by various means playing down to the last 16 . All the results can be found here.

The 16 remaining play off today to earn the right to line up against the top 8 seeds. Following so far? Good! Our mystery tipster- Anthony Urmston-Toft has got to know a lot of the players on the BDO circuit and will be offering his advice as to who may progress.

We are not sure at the moment if the bookmakers will be offering a market on the 1st round matches – watch this space. In the meantime you can enter a competition  by prediciting from our selections who will progress the furthest. Check out our Facebook page to enter our free competition. There is a brand spanking set of "Perfect Darts" to the winner (closes at 5pm today- 2 september 2011)

“Round 1”

The survivors line up as follows:

Kevin Thomas V Steve Douglas

Kevin won through to the preliminary round last year too so a little bit of experience. Steve Douglas should have enough though to win this one though.

Tip:Douglas

Glen Durrant V Craig Baxter

Glen was a quarter finalist in the BDO Gold Cup recently and has strung some consistant results together in recent times and gets our vote ahead of Craig Baxter.

Tip:Durrant

Richard Howson V Andrew Gilding

Richard got to the last 64 of the UK Open this year but is up against “Goldfinger” who pulled off one of the “shocks” of the UK Open by disposing of The Hammer.  We are sticking with Andrew for this one.

Tip:Gilding

Ewan Hyslop V Robert Wagner

Ewan has also strung together some decent results this season but will need to produce some magic to see off Robert Wagner. “The Magican” is a vastly experienced player and we are backing him to pull a win out of the hat tonight!

Tip:Wagner

Rick Hofstra V Jim Widmayer

Rick was last seen at lakeside in 2005 and has since been overtaken by the many fine Dutch players on the circuit. However, we reckon the trip from the USA will be worthwhile for Jim Widmayer and we have marked him down to progress.

Tip:Widmayer

Radek Szaganski V Christian Kist

We don’t know a lot about Szaganski but he accounted for Paul Whitworth and Jim Withers to earn his place in this round. Kist on the other hand got to the final of the Swiss Open recently, so we are backing the Dutchman to prevail

Tip:Kist

Colin Fowler V Martin Phillips

Fowler beat "The Count" on the way to this encounter and has had a fantastic tournament. But, he has to play the refuse collector from Wales, the popular Martin Phillips. The Darts Performance Centre are big fans of Martin-he plays his own way, to his own rhythm and he doesn’t give a second thought as to whether his style of play doesn’t suit his opponent or the commentators! here is a blog that he was mentioned in.We like his single mindedness. Only one winner here: Red Dragon’s tub thumping Welshman!

Tip: Phillips

Stephen Bunting V  Peter Johns

Another Welshman, Peter Johns comes up against another hugely popular player on the BDO circuit-Stephen Bunting. Arguably Stephen hasn’t capitalised on his brilliant run to the quarter final of Lakeside in January this season yet but if his power scoring is in operation Peter may be his first scalp on a journey all the way to the final!

Tip: Bunting
