The pub darts team get to suss out the sports scientist, did it end in tears or trebles?

Darts Experiment – Night 1 Pub Team Follow up………….

Venue: The Kasbah Club Bournemouth

Analysis: Great venue for darts if ever you are in Bournemouth

The Team: The Kasbah

Analysis: Team Kasbah has a great team spirit, something we touched on during our Darts World Cup blogs.

Interesting discussion raised by the players as they discussed their own darts skills.

The most frequent areas: Consistency, Accuracy or lack of it.

Interviews:

Method: Three at a time whilst the rest of the group completed some score sheets so we have some record of their level of play from day one of the experiment.

Findings

Team spirit and the team cohesion helped some of the team play better - They couldn’t exactly pinpoint why this could be?

Analysis: Increase in effort or motivation from the concern of not letting their team mates down and collective brothers in arms camaraderie.

Findings: The mental side of Negative thoughts and self talk does crop up a lot with players . Anger or “Get angry” was stated as helping to achieve the best standard.

Analysis: The main goal is to reach your top level in a far calmer state to be more consistent

Results

All the players signed up to the Darts Performance Centre website, given a brief tour of the many areas and facets of it and then they were set their homework.

Homework

Suggestions for any player who is contemplating commencing a performance improvement programme. The players are motivated and all keen to try out the ideas and we suggested that they:

  • Keep throwing and completing their matrix cards.
  • They question what they are doing and why
  • Understand key aspects for success in any programme is the ability to question, reflect and think critically about what you are being asked do and of course consider the feedback from a third party(coach or trusted darts friend) It is impossible to improve without feedback!

Next Stages

Tuesday 8 March 2011 will be focused on filming and analysing technique next week using Silicon Coach Software and the new SightRight device from Winmau.com.

Conclusions……..

The passion for darts improvement of the Pub Team was right up there with any professional`s I’ve seen, but all the team members were struggling with where to find the expert help they needed. This mission is what the Darts Performance Centre is all about - to help every level of player to improve their game.

Please take a look through the site and we hope we get the chance to help you too.
