We talk Phil Taylor, pop stars and grassroots...

Welcome to The Darts Performance Centre Darts Blog

Grand Slam of Darts Day 7

Apology
Earlier on in the week it may have been interpreted by some that I intimated that due to the sudden demise of Phil “The Power” Taylor they now were in with a chance of taking the title of the Winner of The Daily Mirror Grand Slam of Darts 2010.  I am very sorry for any confusion that this statement has had and I would like to assure all elite dart players that procedures have now been put in place to ensure that an error like this does not ever happen again...

Grass Roots
As the `big boys` battle it out on the stage for the trophy and the big cheque let us not forget the `grassroots` of the game. Arguably the real `super-heroes` of darts are  the people that give up their time to encourage and nurture young people to take up darts and carry the sport forward to the next generation.
I am off to the Petersfield Academy Under 21`s Competition today. The Petersfield Academy was set up in 2008, inspired by the success of another fantastic academy in Andover. The Petersfield Academy is run by Chris Skinner, Carl Hiscock and their team. Chris and Carl are fantastic ambassadors for the young players of Petersfield; they are enthusiastic, motivated and knowledgeable dart players, three crucial ingredients that are needed to inspire  the youth of today to dump their Xbox, MP3 players, satellite channels, facebook and twitter to play darts. When you consider the `leisure time` options a young person has today it makes it even more of an amazing achievement that there will be a whole crowd of young dart players all crammed into a darts hall in Petersfield. Hats off to them!
