It Was Elementary For Sherrock!

PDC William Hill World Championship Day 10

It Was Elementary For Sherrock!

Fallon Sherrock rocked the Palace again last night with an even bigger scalp than Ted Evetts. This time it was Mensur who got the full Fallon treatment as she popped in 69% of her doubles to topple the Austrian.

Rodders could barely contain his excitement - not particularly focusing in on the victory but drooling over the "marketing opportunities"! If I was cynical I would perhaps say that sums up how commited the PDC are really about Ladies darts.

But, we have learned over the years never to underestimate Uncle Barry and surely if anyone can come up with a plan for the Ladies then it is him. My personal feeling is that these amazing wins for Fallon and with the PDC marketing machine in overdrive it is easy to forget the back story. The organisation that so many people seem to want to see destroyed, the BDO (sometimes the people running the BDO appear like they want to destroy it too) has been supporting Ladies darts for decades.

Yes the prize money has been poor compared to the men, yes sometimes they have been messed around on TV schedules but without the BDO support the platform supporting Fallon et al would not be in place. Perhaps it is time for a BDO/PDC partnership that plonks the Ladies game in the forefront, gvies a legitimate pathway to enter events V the men and gives the Ladies the chance to shine and turn PRO due to increased prize funds.

This could also provide an income stream for the BDO and that really would be ironic if the Ladies, after years of being 2nd class citizens in the eyes of many at the BDO helped save the BDO from shutting its doors!

Dimitri Van den Bergh 3-0 Josh Payne (Second Round)

One other thing caught ny attention too but I need to take you back to Friday and the Nathan Aspinall/Danny Baggish game.

The Asp was quite rightly excited to be back at the palace, after all the good memories from last year. His walk on was boisterous and once he was on stage the singing and conducting of the crowd seemed to last an eternity.

Then first set Baggish played him like a drum and the Asp was not on song at all and got thumped 3 legs to 0. What do you think, did the walk on get him so hyped that he was not ready to play?

It reminded me of an incident many years ago when I was in correspondence with the late great Sid Waddell. I told Sid in my opinion Mardle's walk on was too hectic and this rendered Wayne liable to lose the first leg of any game he played with his crazy walk on.

Sid leaked this to Wayne, Mardle then ditched his walk on and promptly won the first leg V Phil Taylor in the Premier League. Off the record Wayne apparently got a rollocking by the PDC hierarchy and was persuaded to resume his energetic walk on. Those were the days.

We have some more great action today:
