Fallon Sherrock making history was the big story of the day at the PDC World Championships!

That's one small leap for a Women, one giant step for darts!

There are a few major darts stories bubbling under the surface at the moment but one came bursting through the rest last night as “History Maker” Fallon Sherrock became the first women to win a World Championship match at the Alexandra Palace.

It was an epic game played in a fantastic atmosphere and Ted Evetts pushed her all the way. Sherrock has become overnight the face and voice of ladies’ darts and is splashed all over the media including a spot with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain. You see fame does come at a cost!

The Ladies game has been on the up for a while now. Let us not forget the BDO have been promoting Ladies darts for many years and the quality if not the rewards have been rising steadily. Hopefully this tremendous win and achievement will hasten the level playing field the women players crave and deserve. We will see!

In other news Krzysztof Ratajski staggered past Zoran Lerhbacher 3:2 in the afternoon session yesterday. Ryan Searle, Cristo Reyes and Nowl Malicdem also progressed. In the evening session Jeffrey de Zwaan and Barney’s conquer Darin Young played in a classic “after the Lord Mayor’s show” encounter as they had to follow the Sherrock/Evetts game.

In front of a dwindling crowd de Zwann just had enough to progress 3:2. It is another double header today and here is what is happening:

Ron Meulenkamp (6/13) v Ben Robb (9/4) (First Round)

Stephen Bunting (1/3) v Jose Justicia (14/5)  (Second Round)

Evening Session (1900 GMT) - 3x First Round, 1x Second Round

James Wilson (4/9)  v Nico Kurz (11/5) (First Round)
Josh Payne (4/11) v Diogo Portela (13/5)  (First Round)
Gabriel Clemens (4/11) v Benito van de Pas (5/2) (First Round)
James Wade (1/4)  v Ritchie Edhouse (7/2) (Second Round)
