Daryl Gurney Signature Darts

Joe's series of players and their darts continues with Winmau's Daryl Gurney!

A huge fan favourite in the PDC, Daryl Gurney has established himself in recent years as one of the world's best players, consistently challenging the likes of Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson for major televised titles. His first of those came in 2017 in the World Grand Prix, one of the few unique tournaments in darts due to the double-in format.

Gurney defeated Simon Whitlock 5-4 in sets with an 88.5 average to claim his maiden title, and the £100,000 prize money. The following year, ‘Superchin’ claimed his second televised title with a win over MVG in the final of the Players Championship Finals. In a closely fought contest in which Daryl was up against a 100.2 average, he kept his composure to take out a classy 85 checkout on the bullseye to seal the 11-9 win over the current World No. 1.

Other wins in the PDC for the World No. 4 include victory at Players Championship 7 in 2017, in which he defeated ‘The Hurricane' Kim Huybrechts 6-3 in the final, after overcoming Gerwyn Price the round before. The Northern Irishman also tasted success in the German Darts Championship in 2019, with a 8-6 win over ‘Rapid’ Ricky Evans, keeping his focus despite a poor doubling percentage of just under 30%.

While a PDC household name, Gurney formerly played in the BDO under the alias of ‘The Dude’. In both 2009 and 2010, Gurney reached the Quarter Finals of the BDO World Darts Championships, as well as winning the prestigious England Masters and Northern Ireland Open in 2012. On the back of these successes, Gurney entered Q-School and won his Tour Card in January 2013, on the second day of qualifying. The rest, as they say, is history.

Daryl uses his own Winmau signature gold darts. The darts have a long, thin barrel with grooves to aid grip and finger positioning. The gold variation of his darts are a set I personally own, and really enjoy throwing. There is a deceivingly high level of grip along the barrel, that almost has a sticky feel to it, but without feeling uncomfortable to hold or use.

The darts are perfectly balanced, and well suited to a middle or rear gripper. For a front gripper, there is still a high level of grip, but some experimentation may be required with the flights and stems to even out the balance. Winmau have also released a special edition black and green set of darts, available in different weights to the gold darts, with a slightly different grip style. The darts come equipped with a set of Winmau Prism Force stems, and Winmau Daryl Gurney flights.

The Gold darts are available in 23g (6.2mm x 54.6mm) and 25g (6.6mm x 54.6mm)

 The Green and Black darts are available in , 22g (6.4mm x 50.8mm) and 24g (6.8mm x 50.8mm)

The Gold darts are stocked by Darts Performance Centre and are available for £34.99:

The Green and Black darts are stocked by Darts Performance Centre and are available for £41.99:
