Barry Twomlow Signature Darts

We take a look at darts legend Barry Twomlow and his signature Unicorn darts.

When you think of dart players, Englishman Barry Twomlow isn’t one that immediately springs to mind. Signed by Unicorn, Barry competed in various WDF tournaments from 1969 to 1989, winning the prestigious News of the World tournament in 1969, defeating Paul Gosling 2-0 in the final. That year, he also went on to win the first ever Swedish Open, again defeating the Englishman Gosling.

The following year, Barry came within touching distance of replicating his 1969 success, falling short to two-time News of the World Champion Tom Barrett, who did what Barry couldn’t in successfully defending his title the following year. Barry, in 1988, finished in the last 16 of the Tokyo World Darts Grand Prix, pocketing his biggest payday of YEN 1,000,000 (just under £7,400).

Barry had an interesting career off the oche too. He was hired by Unicorn Darts to travel the world as a ‘Ambassador of Darts’, introducing the game to different countries and cultures. It’s interesting to think how many of the professionals today would still be playing, had Barry not done his work abroad in recruiting and inspiring the next generation. Up until his sudden passing in 2004, Barry competed in exhibitions, passing on his knowledge of the game, with a whisky in one hand and his darts in the other. Barry was a true legend of the sport.

Barry’s darts are manufactured by Unicorn, and feature a plain tungsten barrel with a bulbous front nose. The darts have a thin grip in the centre, allowing for and easy release of the dart, and yet still have enough grip to be able to hold the dart without fear of slipping. The darts are 90% tungsten, and come supplied as the barrels only, in a stylish white box.

The darts are available in 22g (44.45mm x 6.99mm) and 24g (45.09mm x 7.49mm)

The darts are stocked by Darts Performance Centre and are available for £37.95:
