Meet Our Latest Kit Sponsored Player

Posted: 01.03.18 in Darts Performance Centre Blog category

Geert Nentjes is our latest sponsored player!

It was a fascinating experience attending the European Q School with Diogo and The Iron Man, Dennis Nilsson. It ultimately ended in disappointment for Diogo and Dennis, and in particular Brazilliant, missing out on a tour card by 1 point and 1 place.

It is not just players that learn from experiences like Q School. From a manager/coach perspective it is also an interesting experience and one that I took a lot from. I also use opportunities like this to do a spot of “talent spotting”. Not the usual suspects who everyone knows are top players but players yet to hit the heights. Like a football scout hunting for talent out on the council pitches I keep my eyes peeled for players who are still trying to break through.

One player who fitted this profile was a young player from The Netherlands, Geert Nentjes. Dennis tipped me off initially by telling me he had just witnessed Geert hitting 4, 180’s on the bounce whilst warming up. The bad news for Dennis was he had drawn him to play against too!

I watched a few of Geert’s games and was very impressed. I introduced myself and explained about the Darts Performance Centre and that I was interested in making him one of our kit sponsored players. We agreed to discuss it further at the UK Open qualifiers in Barnsley which is what we did and agreed a deal.

More About Geert (in his own words)

I started playing darts when I was 12 but started playing National tournaments when I was 16. I won the Champions League Of Darts when I was 16 and qualified for the Finder darts masters juniors. I also won the next 'talent of darts' when I was 17 and ended 5th on the national ranking for boys up to 18.

Last November I reached the last 32 of the PDC World Youth Championship. That sums my career pretty much up so far. I’m studying engineering and design at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences and will hopefully graduate next year.

UK Open

Geert has also qualified for the UK Open and will wear our patch there for the first time!

So, keep an eye out for Geert. He has a terrific technique and temperament and we are very pleased to have him on board as a Darts Performance Centre kit sponsored player!
